Sunday open thread: What are the keys to victory for the Lions beating the Eagles?

Can the Lions get a win before the bye week, and what will they need to do to get their first W?

Despite the winless record, the Detroit Lions have been just a play or two away from victory on multiple occasions. They don’t have the luxury of being able to make costly mistakes and walk away with victory like some of the better teams in the NFL. Today, they host a Philadelphia Eagles team that is more or less in the same boat as them. If not now, then when?

The Lions will need better play from their defense and from their quarterback for starters, but they might already have the perfect recipe in place to beat the Eagles.

Today’s Question of the Day is...

What are the keys to victory for the Lions over the Eagles?

My answer: The good news for the Lions is that the Eagles’ defense loves to give up yardage underneath and not let you beat them with big plays. That might make things ideal for Jared Goff who doesn’t need any convincing to dump the ball off underneath nearly every single play.

The Eagles also have one of the worst run defenses in the NFL in terms of giving up yardage (fourth-worst). For the Lions to win today, they’re going to need to establish the run and for Goff to simply play his game and not turn the ball over. That will probably be enough against the struggling Eagles.

Your turn.
