The Detroit Lions are on a bye week. You cannot watch them.

You cannot watch them.

But not to fear. While that cosmic dread sinks through your mind, there is still football, which seems improbable but remains a solid truth.

Let’s talk about what you could be watching in place of Lions football. It will not fill the void in your belly. Nothing can. That will gnaw forever. But for one week, you can tempt other tastes.

Cincinnati Bengals vs. Cleveland Browns

Date: Sunday, November 7, 2021
Time: 1 p.m. ET
Location: Paul Brown Stadium — Cincinnati, OH
TV: CBS
TV announcers: Jim Nantz, Tony Romo
Week 9 Map: Courtesy of 506 Sports
Online stream: FUBO.TV, Yahoo Sports app (locally)
Radio: Full list of radio affiliates here
Odds: Cincinnati -2, 48 o/u, according to DraftKings Sportsbook.

For most local to Michigan, this game will be on your CBS affiliates. The Bengals have been quite the surprise this year, having overtaken the usual suspects for the lead in the AFC North. For the Browns, they just jettisoned wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr., and it stands to question whether they’re better for it or not.

Either way, any divisional game in the AFC North is bound to be nasty in some respects, and Joe Burrow and his receiver corps have proven quite exciting to watch.

Miami Dolphins vs. Houston Texans

Date: Sunday, November 7, 2021
Time: 1 p.m. ET
Location: Hard Rock Stadium — Miami Gardens, FL
TV: FOX
TV announcers: Chris Myers, Darryl Johnson
Week 9 Map: Courtesy of 506 Sports
Online stream: FUBO.TV, Yahoo Sports app (locally)
Radio: Full list of radio affiliates here
Odds: Miami -5, 47 o/u, according to DraftKings Sportsbook.

You have to live in the vicinity of Houston metro or Miami-Dade county in order to watch this one: it’s being mercifully shunted from most of the country.

However, for the real football sickos out there, this one has strong implications for the chase for the first overall draft pick in the 2022 NFL Draft. Both Miami and Houston have a single win, so someone is about to move down in the draft order. For Lions fans eyeing the top of the draft, this game could change a good matter of draft strategy, and both of these teams are in sticky situations given their current quarterbacks.

San Francisco 49ers vs. Arizona Cardinals

Date: Sunday, November 7, 2021
Time: 4:25 p.m. ET
Location: Levi’s Stadium — Santa Clara, CA
TV: FOX
TV announcers: Kevin Kugler, Mark Sanchez
Week 9 Map: Courtesy of 506 Sports
Online stream: FUBO.TV, Yahoo Sports app (locally)
Radio: Full list of radio affiliates here
Odds: San Francisco -3, 52.5 o/u, according to DraftKings Sportsbook.

Reject the awful storyline slurry that is Green Bay vs. Kansas City. Embrace anarchy and uncertainty. Watch this miserable football game.

Gemini Home Entertainment

Time: Any
Location: Youtube
TV: No
TV announcers: No
Week 9 map: No
Odds: Unfathomable

I’ve been on a kick with Youtube’s offering of strange horror ARGs—alternate reality games—a trendy way to refer to Blair Witch-style found footage multimedia storytelling. As one who never really enjoyed horror movies, I’ve found good love with the old Marble Hornets series, and the brilliant series Local58 posted a new video that spurred a new dive to fill my gullet with content.

Gemini Home Entertainment is one of those series that I consumed off recommendations. It’s definitely in the concept of analog horror like Local58, harkening to low-budget VHS catalogues in contrast to analog television broadcast but achieving many of the same visual and audio dread. While it does fall into the problem of giving too many answers to too many of its mysteries, the format remains compelling and the horror remains sharp.

With Lions football and all its horrors and mockeries, an appreciation for the great cosmos and its infinite terrors—”space is disease wrapped in darkness and silence” and all—there’s never a better time to come to terms with how the skies above will never truly embrace you.
