WATCH LIVE: Can Odell Beckham Jr. get the Detroit Lions their first win in Madden 22?

The bye week is fully upon us, and while that served as a nice break for both myself and the Detroit Lions players, it’s back to business starting on Monday.

I’m getting a head start by returning to our Madden simulation series. Typically, we run a Madden simulation on Saturday morning to see the video game series’ take on the upcoming Lions game. With no Lions game this Sunday, I’m taking a bit of a different approach to things this week.

Odell Beckham Jr. became one of the bigger stories this week when he and the Cleveland Browns decided to part ways, with his eventual waiving expected to be officially official on Monday. Naturally, given the Lions roster and their No. 1 priority on waivers, many are wondering if Detroit will add him when the waiver claims are processed.

Personally, I think there’s very little chance of that happening. Given how the Browns restructured his contract—eliminating both remaining years on his contract, and not adjusting his 2021 salary—it makes little sense for Detroit. They’d have to create a significant amount of cap space to fit him on the roster this year, and they’d only get nine games of Beckham (if he doesn’t throw a fit about being in Detroit) before becoming a free agent. Sure, they could possibly get a compensatory pick out of it, but that’s only assuming they aren’t active themselves in free agency.

But, hey, when it comes to Madden, we don’t have to worry about locker room drama, building a culture, or even really care about the salary cap too much.

So on this week’s Madden sim, we’re making Beckham a Lion, and we’re pitting Detroit against the worst team in the NFL (according to Madden), the Houston Texans, in a desperate effort just to see this damn team win a game, virtually or otherwise.
