Out with the old, in with the new. Roughly a week after the news that Matthew Stafford would leave Detroit, the Lions found their long-time quarterback a new home in Los Angeles with the Rams, and for their trouble took on three draft picks and Jared Goff.
It’s a hell of a trade contingent upon a few things, but everyone seems mostly happy with the arrangement. For Detroit, it seals this new era in stone: a new coach, a new front office, a new quarterback, plus plenty of draft capital to play with.
But is Jared Goff in line to be a successful quarterback in Detroit? The parties in Detroit all believe so, although fan sentiment is that he might just be a stopgap until the Lions draft their next big man in the upcoming draft classes. Either way, the Lions have options, and thanks to all their draft capital they’re in a comfortable place to exercise those options as they look towards the future of the franchise.
On this episode of the Pride Of Detroit PODcast, we break it all down. The trade, Jared Goff, and what strategies are in play for the Lions as they approach not just the 2021 NFL Draft, but 2022 and 2023 as well.
