We’ve yet to hear Matthew Stafford speak publicly since the blockbuster trade that will send the 12-year Detroit Lions franchise quarterback to Los Angeles for a future with the Rams. That isn’t all that surprising, as the veteran quarterback likes to stay out of the public eye and has no social media accounts, but it’s clear there are some fans that would like to hear from him after they emotionally invested in him all these years.
Well, it appears those fans will get their wish. Starting on Wednesday night at 11 p.m. ET, WDIV—channel 4 in local Detroit—will air what they’re calling “The Stafford Story,” a multi-part special airing over a couple days.
In their teaser clip, as shared by Kelly Stafford on Instagram, the story will go over the Lions quarterback’s favorite memories on the field, his impact off the field, and how difficult of a decision it was for him to move on from Detroit. Here’s a transcript of the trailer:
Narrator: The Stafford Story.
Matthew: We’ll never forget Detroit. We’ll never forget our time here.
Narrator: After 12 years, it’s time for the next chapter.
Interviewer: The decision to leave, how hard was that for you?
Matthew: Uh...
Narrator: So many memories on the field...
Matthew: I thought we had that game won.
Narrator: ... and lifetime of memories off the field.
Kelly: I really wasn’t expecting the support I got from here.
Narrator: And you’ll see the major investment the Staffords are making in the city Detroit that will change lives for years to come. The Stafford Story beginning Wednesday at 11.
For those of you that aren’t local, we’ll try to post the video of the story if WDIV publishes online.
