Sunday open thread: What Lions player will be the most improved in 2021?

Give us your pick.

Last year was a year to forget, not just for the Detroit Lions as an organization, but also for many individual players that underperformed. Whether due to personal struggles or because of a coaching staff that was inevitably on its way out, 2020 was a big step backward for some. Even head coach Dan Campbell and defensive coordinator Aaron Glenn felt as if the players had no confidence and looked confused last year.

With a new staff in place, it’s time to get that confidence back and turn over a new leaf. There is a lot to be excited about with the coaches they’ve brought in. I believe that for the first time in at least a couple of years, everyone should be on the same page again.

Today’s Question of the Day is...

What Lions player will be the most improved in 2021?

My answer: Tracy Walker.

The writing was on the wall since the start of training camp and many of us didn’t want to believe it. After Duron Harmon took over his role as the deep safety, Walker looked like a fish out of water when attempting to adapt to different responsibilities. Even Walker himself felt as if coaching was holding him back last year.

I’m excited to see what Walker can do under Glenn’s defensive expertise, because we know he can play at a high level already. He just needs to play with confidence again and get after the ball, like we’re used to seeing.

Some other players I considered here were Jeff Okudah, Julian Okwara, Quintez Cephus and John Penisini. You can pretty much argue that any defensive player from last year could improve in 2021, because there is a lot to improve on. On offense, I think with the uncertainty of the wide receiver position we could see Cephus step into a much bigger role and become a reliable target for Jared Goff.

Your turn.
