The Detroit Lions are set to have a new man under center and acting as the face of the franchise in Jared Goff. While there was initially speculation that the Lions made their trade in spite of Jared Goff and may consider moving him, the evidence since has suggested the Lions are embracing him with open arms. Dan Campbell & Co. are hoping Goff can be their rock at quarterback, at least for the next couple years.
Question of the day: Are you ready to embrace Jared Goff as your franchise QB?
My answer: I don’t think we have a choice. Regardless, it’s a yes.
I think the bright spot of Jared Goff is that he brings hope. There isn’t much to be hopeful about in the near future: the defense is only slightly better than your local junior varsity, and the Lions have one wide receiver from their 53-man roster under contract.
Jared Goff was once an up-and-comer who led his team to the Super Bowl. Yes, he had a nice supporting cast. Yes, he has regressed since. Nonetheless, he’s done it. Seeing the level he is capable of playing at does inspire hope that maybe the Lions can at least be competitive in games this season, even if their record suggests otherwise.
