A couple weeks ago, on the eve of what would become an iconic press conference for Detroit Lions head coach Dan Campbell, we talked to Hal Habib of the Palm Beach Post to prepare us for what was to come with Campbell. Habib, who called Campbell “the one who got away” from the Miami Dolphins, chatted with us about Campbell’s time in South Beach, and his 12-game run as the team’s interim head coach.
Now it’s time to get a more updated scouting report on the Lions’ new head coach. Campbell has spent the last five years with the New Orleans Saints alongside Sean Payton as the team’s tight ends coach and assistant head coach. So this week, we chatted with Amie Just of NOLA.com to learn more about the man the Lions just handed a six-year deal to.
What has he learned under Patyon? What were his duties as assistant head coach? Why does Campbell seem like a perfect fit for Detroit? And Amie tells us some stories about her experiences with Campbell.
Then we talk about new Lions defensive coordinator Aaron Glenn, one of the more impressive hires from Campbell. Amie explains to us why Glenn was such an effective coach of the Saints secondary and explains his strengths as a leader and a brilliant defensive mind.
