Julian Okwara is entering his second year in the NFL, and thanks to the Detroit Lions, he’ll have his brother right there alongside him to help. On Monday afternoon, word leaked that the Lions will re-sign Romeo Okwara to a three-year deal worth up to $39 million.

Naturally, Julian was thrilled for his brother, not only because his family that just made a huge professional accomplishment, but because the two will be working alongside each other in 2021 and hopefully beyond.

“From undrafted to one of the best DE’s in the league,” Julian tweeted on Monday afternoon. “Preciate you for showing me the ropes, now let’s take over! @RomeoND45”

During his rookie season, Julian was actually next-door neighbors with his brother, and he felt it was going to pay off for his future.

“He’s definitely close enough to be a great resource for me in terms of football and just keeping right mental headspace, especially with the long seasons,” Julian said last August. “I feel pretty fortunate that we’re right next to each other, stay close to each other, really. It’s definitely going to help in the long run. So I’m looking forward to that and spending more time with him.

With Romeo now signed through the 2023 season—the same year Julian’s rookie deal expires—that synergy will continue in Detroit.
