Thursday open thread: Who’s been the Lions’ best offseason addition?

Who is your favorite addition so far?

NFL: NFC Divisional Round-Los Angeles Rams at Green Bay Packers Mark J. Rebilas-USA TODAY Sports

The new league year has barely begun and the Detroit Lions have already completely reshaped the roster. It started with the Jared Goff and Matthew Stafford trade and has been pretty nonstop ever since.

So far the Lions have been adding talent through just about every avenue: trades, cut players, and free agents. Here’s a quick recap of the Lions’ offseason additions:

New Players

  • WR Tyrell Williams
  • TE Josh Hill
  • RB Jamaal Williams
  • QB Jared Goff
  • DT Michael Brockers
  • QB Tim Boyle

Re-signed Players

  • DE Romeo Okwara
  • LB Jalen Reeves-Maybin
  • CB Mike Ford

So, today’s question of the day is:

Who’s been the Lions’ best offseason addition?

My answer: Michael Brockers.

This one has multiple layers for me. For one, Brockers brings a consistent, high-level talent to a defensive line that needed it bad. He’ll also instantly be a team leader and he should be able to help the younger guys grow.

He is the type of player the Lions desperately needed, and even if he isn’t lighting it up on the stat sheet every single week, he should help make all of the players around him better.

It also doesn't hurt that the Lions basically gave up nothing for him (reportedly a 2023 seventh-round pick). Overall, I love that the Lions are getting creative and bringing in talent with specific roles in mind.

Your turn.
