On Friday evening, the NFL released its official list of draft picks for the entire seven rounds of the 2021 NFL Draft.
The Detroit Lions currently have six picks for April’s draft, as expected, but the NFL cleared up a few lingering questions about where the Lions will be picking.
First, it was recently revealed that the 2021 third-round pick from the Los Angeles Rams the Lions received in the Matthew Stafford trade was one of their two conditional third-round picks. That pick turned out to be pick 101, the first of their two conditional picks (the other being 103).
Secondly, many were wondering what the Everson Griffen trade would end up costing the Lions. It was reported to be a conditional sixth-round pick that could be a fifth-round pick if the conditions are met. As it turns out, that pick stayed a sixth-round pick, leaving the Lions with their original fifth-round pick still in hand.
Here’s a full list of the Lions’ six picks in the 2021 NFL Draft.
- Round 1, Pick 7:
- Round 2, Pick 9, 41st overall
- Round 3, Pick 8, 72nd overall
- Round 3, Pick 38, 101st overall (via Rams)
- Round 4, Pick 7, 112th overall
- Round 5, Pick 9, 153rd overall
- No sixth-round pick due to Griffen trade (Cowboys)
- No seventh-round pick due to Quandre Diggs trade (Seahawks)
If you’re wondering why the Lions don’t have the seventh pick in each round, it’s because they finished with the same record as the Panthers and Broncos. While the Lions “won” the tiebreaker to have the highest pick in the first round, the three teams rotate in subsequent rounds.
