Detroit Lions mailbag: Are more contract restructures coming?

We answer all of your latest Lions questions on this week’s Locker Room mailbag session.

Late last week, the Detroit Lions made two cap-saving moves to kick off what should be one of the most interesting—see: metaphorically violent—stretches of any offseason ever. First, the Lions notified veteran cornerback Desmond Trufant that he will be released at the start of the NFL new year (March 17), freeing up $6.2 million in cap space. Later, NFL Network reported that Jamie Collins Sr. is getting a contract restructure, and while the details of that are still unknown, it’s likely to free up somewhere in the ballpark of $5 million for 2021.

So on this week’s Locker Room session—which you can listen to below—we start with those topics. Were they the right move, and which moves are still yet to come? Is Jared Goff next? What about Halapoulivaati Vaitai?

Then we turn the show over to our listeners and let them lead the conversation. How aggressive will the Lions be in free agency? Is there a chance Logan Stenberg assumes a starting job in the near future? What can we make from the Lions’ obsession with creating a good culture? What will the Lions do at linebacker: grab a guy like Matt Milano in free agency, snag someone early in the draft, or just hope to develop the guys they have?

We answer all of those questions and a whole lot more on this week’s mailbag Locker Room show.
