Instant reactions to Kenny Golladay avoiding Detroit Lions’ franchise tag

Our thoughts on the Lions’ bold decision to move on from Kenny Golladay (it appears).

The Detroit Lions have made the tough decision to pass on utilizing the franchise tag on Pro Bowl wide receiver Kenny Golladay. While nothing is for certain yet, it looks like the Lions will move on from one of their better players as they attempt to pull off a full rebuild with new general manager Brad Holmes and head coach Dan Campbell at the helm.

It’s never easy to move on from a talented player, but there are obviously a lot of financial and foundational reasons to make the move. So, myself, Chris Perfett, and Jerry Mallory gathered on Tuesday afternoon to break down the decision.

Did the Lions make the right decision with Golladay? What kind of message does this send to the rest of the team? How will it impact the team’s ability to find players in free agency?

And more importantly, what are the plans now for the Lions at the wide receiver position? Are they locked into picking one with the seventh overall pick? Will they add any more players in free agency in the upcoming weeks? Is there now a better chance they bring back someone else set to become a free agent (ie: Romeo Okwara)?

We give our answers to those questions and much more on our latest live stream. If you want to be a part of these live events, make sure you’re subscribed to Pride of Detroit on both YouTube and Twitch, and you’ll get notifications every single time we go live.
