It’s official - the Detroit Lions have selected Oregon offensive tackle Penei Sewell with the seventh overall pick.
Considered a top-five talent in this year’s draft class and the best offensive lineman, Brad Holmes and company made it clear their plan is to build on the trenches.
While Sewell spent his time at Oregon playing left tackle, that spot’s confidently taken by Taylor Decker, so he’ll likely scoot over to the right side of the line.
The Lions are very clearly in rebuilding mode and don’t have clear long-term answers at quarterback, but whether it’s Jared Goff or a new, younger quarterback behind center, Sewell will protect him for years to come.
Sewell opted out of the 2020-21 season to prepare for the 2021 NFL Draft, so that’s a year of no play on tape, but that didn’t stop teams from regarding him highly.
Let’s get ourselves hyped up by getting a gander at what he can do.
