Saturday open thread: Will the Detroit Lions win more than five games in 2021?

It may only be April, but over at the DraftKings sportsbook, the over/under totals for team wins were set for the 2021 NFL season. Remember, everyone, 17 games!

For the Detroit Lions, their over/under was set at just five wins. At that total, Detroit was set with the lowest total in the NFC, and only the Houston Texans have a lower preseason total—4.5. Taking the Lions win total at over five wins earns you even money at +100 while the under is going to cost you at -121.

This leads us to today’s Question of the day...

Will the Detroit Lions win more than five games in 2021?

If I was a betting man—and unfortunately, I am—I’m going to grab the over five at even odds.

Looking at the Lions schedule for 2021, things aren’t going to be easy on Dan Campbell and Co. in their first season in Detroit. The Lions play the NFC West, the AFC North, and the 2020 last-place teams from the NFC East, NFC South, and AFC West—the Philadelphia Eagles, the Atlanta Falcons, and the Denver Broncos.

That sure doesn’t seem like a cakewalk, but I’m counting on the Lions' defense to play drastically better than they did a year ago. When I say drastically better, I’m thinking all things considered so far—adding Michael Brockers, bringing back Romeo Okwara, and having a coaching staff who will actually put players in a position to be successful—Detroit’s defense could be good enough to prop up a much different looking offense to win six, maybe seven games.
