The Lions war room nearly collapsed with the vibrating energy of untold excitement when Oregon offensive tackle Penei Sewell fell right into Detroit’s lap. Make no mistake; there was no hesitation on the part of the Detroit Lions. They wanted this guy and they damn well got him.

We capped off a five hour stream on Twitch with a quick reaction podcast, although when it’s myself and John Whiticar you know we’ll go long just having fun with talking about all the things that make Sewell such a dynamic and interesting pick. For a kid who grew up loving the Detroit Lions to now wear the Honolulu Blue, it’s a hell of a story.

The PODcast breaks down Sewell, delivers our instant reactions and grade accordingly. John and I also break down the rest of of Day 1 of the 2021 NFL Draft, with special interest for the rest of the NFC North division: in particular, the ails and woes of the Green Bay Packers (and plenty of schadenfreude—that means people taking pleasure in your pain) and whether or not the Bears got away with a train robbery by trading up to draft Justin Fields. Some Lions fans feel upset that Fields not only got past Detroit but went to the ur-rival of the division, and we address that too.

Subscribe to the PODcast on Apple Podcasts, Google Podcasts, Spotify, Stitcher or iHeartRadio. Follow Pride Of Detroit on Twitch and on YouTube to get notified when we record the PODcast live and chat with us. Video replays are available on both Twitch and YouTube (and there’s a lot more bonus content on the video replays).
