A few days before the 2021 NFL Draft, former NFL offensive lineman Geoff Schwartz debuted a video series called the Big Boys Club: O-line draft academy, via Fox Sports. Schwartz’s first guest was Detroit Lions first-round draft pick offensive tackle Penei Sewell.

The first video in the series focused on Sewell, both as a person and player, in a cool get-to-know-you format. In the newest video in the series, just released, Schwartz continues his conversation with Sewell, but the talk pivots to breaking down what he does as a player, “how he moves on the field and what he looks for each play”.

The nine-plus minute video focuses on four plays where Sewell displays rare skills for an offensive lineman.

The first play is a screen where Sewell has to lean on his elite athleticism to get out past the defensive end and then land a block on a defensive back in the open field. Super impressive play all-around from snap to whistle.

The second play is another screen, and this time, after beating the end to the second level, Sewell pauses his attack to make sure another player isn’t coming into the play late, then finishes with authority. “You’re not supposed to be able to start and stop like this,” Schwartz said while giggling.

Play three is on the goal line, where Sewell once again shows his elite awareness and athleticism. On the play, Sewell’s ability to be cognizant of what is happening around him is rare, especially in a situation where everything is sped up.

The final play features an outside zone run to Sewell’s side, and his assignment is to wash the defensive end out of the run lane. Here we get to see him manipulate the defensive lineman at the snap, locate his leverage spot, and power the defender out of the way.
