The Detroit Lions drafted Amon-Ra St. Brown with the 112th pick in the 2021 NFL draft and he will have a chance to compete for a starting role in the slot—in fact, he may already the front runner.
“He’s instinctive, he’s tough, he’s got grit, he’s savvy,” Lions general manager Brad Holmes said of St. Brown. “Usually I don’t try to put too much emphasis on blocking for a wide receiver, I just want to see if they’re tough enough and willing to do it, but he’s one of the most impressive blockers that I saw in this draft class. I just think in that phase of the game, the tenacity that he brings in that phase just says a lot about his intangibles and his football character. A guy that’s got savvy, knows how to run routes, has hands, and makes plays from inside and out, we’re really excited about him. He was a guy that actually we strongly considered yesterday (on Day 2 of the draft).”
Let’s take a closer look at what St. Brown will bring to the Lions this year by going back through his career highlights, starting with the video produced by the Lions’ media department.

Amon-Ra St. Brown did some thangs (not things) against Washington State this past season. He went for four touchdowns. pic.twitter.com/Q8M9EOsYsd

Amon-Ra St. Brown is in my opinion, one of the most underrated WR options in this years class.

He crushed opposing defenses on verts from the slot in college. His feel for winning on verts against deep-zone is exceptional. Here’s a few of my favorites. pic.twitter.com/p2iqw5hxdE

Starts as empty set, then motions WR Amon-Ra St Brown from slot to backfield and just run a little wide zone... Blocking gets him to 2nd level and he does the rest! pic.twitter.com/MLzqeUBfIa
