The Detroit Lions brought in a lot of bodies as undrafted free agents this year, particularly at positions where they’re lacking talent, depth, or both. While undrafted free agents (UDFA) are hardly ever names that catch the eye, this year it’s almost a lock that some of them will make the roster.
Question of the day: Which Lions UDFA are you most excited about?
My answer: Sage Surratt, WR, Wake Forest.
Surratt is a very talented and physical receiver. Prior to opting out of the 2020 season, Surratt crossed the 1000-yard receiving mark in 2019 at Wake Forest and was ranked the sixteenth best prospect for the 2021 draft who chose to return to school by Pro Football Focus.
While he’s lacking in speed and may struggle to get separation, he’s a large and physical guy who fights for the ball and for yards and is hard to take down. That skill set doesn’t exactly line up with what fits Jared Goff, but it does sound awfully like a very talented wide receiver the Lions just let walk in free agency.
Your turn. Which UDFA are you most excited about?
