Phase Three of the NFL offseason kicked off on Monday, and although the Detroit Lions don’t officially begin Organized Team Activities until Tuesday, the team apparently took the field to start the week. No media was on hand for the practice, but the team released a 55-picture photo album and it revealed some interesting things about the team that weren’t previously known.
To begin with, we saw what we can safely assume will be the Lions’ starting offensive line. As evidenced by the second photo in the album, the offensive line is exactly what many expect to be:
Left tackle: Taylor Decker
Left guard: Jonah Jackson
Center: Frank Ragnow
Right guard: Halapoulivaati Vaitai
Right tackle: Penei Sewell
Of note, the Lions appear to be wasting no time in placing seventh overall pick Penei Sewell into the starting lineup. Additionally, the Lions followed through with their claims that they were interested in sliding Halapoulivaati Vaitai to guard.
Based on OTA photos from the Detroit Lions website, first round pick OT Penei Sewell is getting (at least some) looks with the starters at RT.

Of course, it’s always important to note that these photos were hand-selected by the Lions themselves and may not be representative of the entire session. Additionally, because these practices are voluntary, we do not know which players did not show up. This could be the starting lineup right now, but there are over three months until the regular season. A lot can change.
Other interesting notes from the photo gallery:
- Victor Bolden is listed twice as a “running back” in the gallery (Photos 18 and 53). Simply a mislabeling or is a position change in the mix?
- Tight end Alize Mack appears to make a one-handed, full-extension grab. He could be in the mix for Detroit’s TE3 position.
- Since OTAs are voluntary, participation is noteworthy. Here’s everyone that was recognizable from the photos. Note: We also used the OTA arrival photo gallery for this.
Just because a player is not listed here does not mean they were not present. These are just players who were photographed on Monday (and Monday alone). There are photo galleries from previous weeks that include some players not listed below.
