It turns out there will be another long snapper battle in training camp.
According to ProStar Sports Agency, the Detroit Lions have signed former Notre Dame and XFL long snapper Scott Daly to a contract.
Daly has actually had a short stint in the NFL. After going undrafted in 2017, he joined and spent all of training camp with the Dallas Cowboys in 2018. After failing to make the team, he joined the short-lived AAF before they ceased operations. Then the following year he was drafted by the XFL’s New York Guardians before they ceased operations.
Daly will, of course, go against the incumbent long snapper of the past 17 seasons, Don Muhlbach. Detroit re-signed Muhlbach to a one-year deal earlier this offseason after he expressed interest in coming back to help the rebuild.
“I do feel like I want to get this thing going in the right direction before they get rid of me,” Muhlbach said back in December.
Other long snappers have tried to match up against Muhlbach, including Steven Wirtel and Jimmy Landes. None have succeeded. We’ll see if Daly can unseat the GOAT.
