The Detroit Lions have a brutal schedule ahead of them for the 2021 season. Their schedule is ranked sixth-toughest in the NFL based on 2020 records, which will only amplify the rebuild going on in Allen Park.
Question of the day: Which opponent will be the Lions’ toughest in 2021?
My answer: I’m undecided between the Pittsburgh Steelers and the San Francisco 49ers due to their very similar makeup.
When you look at both teams, they’re defense-first teams who can rush the passer and shut down the passing game like few other teams across the league. On offense, they’re run-heavy, which the Lions are moving away from prioritizing in their defense by re-emphasizing rushing the passer.
I should also give honorable mention to the Indianapolis Colts, who are very formidable and have a similar composition to the aforementioned teams. Carson Wentz is a wildcard, however, but the Colts could prove to be an ugly matchup against the Lions.
Your turn. Which 2021 opponent will be the Lions’ toughest? Let’s hear it.
