The third preseason game is now the finale, meaning Friday night’s contest will be the last chance for many Detroit Lions players fighting for a roster spot. The number of decisions still up in the air is as big as ever, and many competitions are close enough that performances against the Colts could have a big impact.
While the actual games are only part of the calculus when it comes to who will end up on the roster, there is certainly a ton of value that can come from showing out in the preseason. Odds are at least a few players will clinch their place on the 53-man roster against Indianapolis on Friday.
Today’s Question of the Day is:
Which player will lock in their roster spot against the Colts?
My answer: Take any position group and there is at least one opening still up for grabs. Tim Boyle and David Blough are both trying to hold on, Craig Reynolds looks to complete the feel-good story, various receivers are fighting for a place or two, and questions remain throughout the linebacking corps and the secondary.
One player that I think could earn his way onto the roster on Friday is Evan Brown. The coaching staff gave him a long look last week and should do the same against the Colts. He has versatility that a player like Logan Stenberg may not offer, and another good outing from Brown would likely add him to the reserve offensive line grouping.
Your turn.
