2021 Detroit Lions roster cuts tracker: Latest news, updates

Tracking every Lions’ roster update as they happen.

NFL: Detroit Lions at Arizona Cardinals Mark J. Rebilas-USA TODAY Sports

With the final preseason game in the books, the Detroit Lions have a few days to figure out how they want to construct their 53-man roster. This year’s deadline is a little different. In the past, every team’s final preseason game would fall on a Thursday, and the roster would have to be cut down by Saturday afternoon.

This year, preseason finales were spread across the entire weekend, with the 53-man deadline on Tuesday. That gives the Lions a small advantage to really take an extra couple of days to consider every possible avenue for their roster.

Following the final preseason game against the Colts, Lions head coach Dan Campbell told the media that he plans on taking his time with these cuts, likely saving his final choices until Monday, because another team may make a roster move that could impact their choices.

“You’re hoping that somebody made – while you’re making these decisions, have they let somebody go that you think can help you now?” Campbell said. “Then that helps your decision moving forward maybe with some guys you haven’t moved on from yet or decide what you’re going to do.”

So as roster cuts come trickling in, we’ll be tracking them all right now from 80 to 53. Refresh this page through 4 p.m. ET on Tuesday, the deadline for all 32 teams.

Note: We are starting the roster at 79 players, not 80. Defensive lineman Jashon Cornell is suspended for the first three games of the season, so the Lions will either cut him or place him on the reserve/suspended list, which does not count against the 53-man roster.
