The Detroit Lions are not a particularly deep football team. Detroit has depth issues at wide receiver, tight end, linebacker, cornerback, and safety, among others. When it comes to those positions, it may not be too difficult for the Lions to make some roster cuts.
But one position that may keep head coach Dan Campbell and general manager Brad Holmes up all night is the defensive line. This preseason, the depth—particularly on the interior—has played extremely well, mirroring what we saw in camp all month. Players like Bruce Hector, Kevin Strong, Austin Bryant, Charles Harris, and John Penisini have all made cases for the final 53-man roster, but Detroit will have to cut at least a couple of those players.
We discuss that conundrum, while also answering all of your Lions' questions about the upcoming season, as well as other roster decisions facing the Lions, and anything else that jumped into your mind during this week’s Spotify Greenroom Q&A session.
Other topics include:
- How will the running back room shake out?
- Change in philosophy in the secondary
- Do the Lions have any tradable assets?
- How true are the reports that Jared Goff has struggled in camp? Any reasons for optimism?
- Our hot takes for the 2021 Lions season
