The Detroit Lions announced on Friday morning that they have signed free agent nose tackle Miles Brown. The third-year defender will take the open roster spot left by the release of Reggie Gilbert earlier this week.

Brown gives the Lions some depth at the nose tackle spot, which may be needed. John Penisini left Wednesday’s practice early, but it’s unclear why or if he’s dealing with an injury. That left rookie third-round pick Alim McNeill to take the rest of nose tackle reps with the first and second teams.

Brown played his college football at Wofford and originally signed with the Arizona Cardinals after the 2019 NFL draft. He bounced between the active roster and practice squad, but played a total of nine games for the Cardinals during his rookie season, generating four pressure and three tackles. He spent 2020 on the Tennessee Titans practice squad but was not offered a futures contract after it expired.

The Lions roster is now back up to 90-players and their first preseason game is just one week away.
