Calvin Johnson thanks Lions fans for inspiration during Hall of Fame speech

NFL: Hall of Fame 2021 Enshrinement Charles LeClaire-USA TODAY Sports

While there may not have been a direct acknowledgement or moment of gratitude towards the Detroit Lions organization, Calvin Johnson made sure to do the city of Detroit right during his Hall of Fame induction speech on Sunday night.

Johnson, who has made Michigan his permanent home, admitted that the unbreakable spirit of Lions fans actually gave him motivation as a player.

“Lions fans, the city of Detroit, when we were 0-16, you never stopped showing up,” Johnson said. “You were disappointed but you never stopped showing up. Every week, you showed up, and this motivated me to do the same thing for you. You loved me and my family unconditionally over these 15 years. I want you to know Michigan is our home, Detroit is our city, and Lions fans are our pride.”

Thank you, Calvin, for nine years of entertainment, memories and record-breaking moments we will never forget.
