The Detroit Lions kick off their 2021 with a total revamped look. New coach, new quarterback, new everything. The Lions are hoping to salvage a piece of dignity after long awful years; anything can happen, but the path ahead is set to be long.
The Lions got some very unwelcome news when it was announced that Taylor Decker would be out for the game, depriving Detroit of their starting left tackle. This has left the team to scramble and re-assign rookie Penei Sewell to left tackle—his natural position, but one where he hasn’t been practicing in preseason camp. He’s set up for some real “Welcome to the NFL rookie” action being asked to handle Nick Bosa, but better now than never.
Meanwhile, San Francisco is eyeing the playoffs this year. They landed a new quarterback in Trey Lance, but it remains unclear how much Detroit will see the former North Dakota State quarterback; the first snaps of the year are set to be taken by Jimmy Garoppolo.
Lions football is back, furious and raw. It’s on television, on the radio, and on the internet and with the right connections, you too can watch this game.
