The Detroit Lions announced that they have made a roster move on the practice squad, signing cornerback Daryl Worley and releasing wide receiver Sage Surratt in a corresponding move.

Worley, a former third-round pick in the 2016 NFL draft, began his rookie season with the Carolina Panthers and started 31 of 32 games over the first two years of his career. The following season, the Panthers traded him to the Philadelphia Eagles, but just two months after the trade, Worley was arrested (charges included DUI, disorderly conduct, and violation of the uniform firearms act) and released.

A week after his release in 2018, the Las Vegas Raiders signed him, and after serving a four-game suspension, he would go on to start 25 games for them over the next two seasons.

You may remember him from this one-handed interception of Matthew Stafford in 2019:

Last season, Worley began the season with the Dallas Cowboys and started four games before being benched. The Cowboys tried to trade him, but eventually cut him as part of a roster purge—the one that created the opportunity for the Lions to acquire Everson Griffen.

Next, Worley joined the Buffalo Bills practice squad and was elevated for one game before the Raiders came calling again and signed him away from the Bills. He would start two more games down the stretch for Las Vegas.

This past offseason, he joined the Arizona Cardinals but was released at cutdowns before joining the Lions practice squad two weeks later.

Worley (6-foot-1, 205 pounds) has played in 66 NFL games, starting 54 of them, making him far and away the most experienced member of the Lions secondary.

Surratt was given $100,000 in guaranteed money to sign with the Lions after this past draft but has failed to live up to expectations.

After signing WR Geronimo Allison to the practice squad earlier today, the Lions practice squad currently sits at the maximum of 16 players. However, with Jeff Okudah placed on injured reserve and Tommy Kraemer waived on Tuesday, the Lions' active roster has just 51 players, leaving two slots open for additional moves.
