As much as we hate to admit it as Detroit Lions fans, the Green Bay Packers have a lot of talented players on their roster. Beyond the reigning MVP, there are at least another four options on both sides of the ball that are among the tops at their positions.
So today’s Question of the Day is:
Which player on the Packers would you want on the Detroit Lions roster?
Here are the top options with a few positives and negatives for each player.
Aaron Rodgers was the best player in football last year and while he is the obvious choice if we’re discussing short-term options, I like to think of things with a longer scope, as the Lions are in the middle of a rebuild. He’s 38 years old, carries a $27.5 million cap hit ($46.1 M in 2022), and is very opinionated about where he wants to play.
David Bakhtiari is one of the best left tackles in the business, but he is 30 years old and also often injured. Add in the Lions have Taylor Decker and Penei Sewell signed through 2024 and he’s not as appealing to the Lions as some other players.
Davante Adams is the best wide receiver in the NFL, in my opinion, but he is 29 years old and in the final year of his deal. If I knew an extension could get done, he’d be at the top of my list.
Aaron Jones is fantastic. I have loved his game since his days at UTEP, but he also carries a price tag that is significantly higher than what I’d want in a running back, with cap hits of $9, $19.25, and $15.25 million on the books in the next three years.
Elgton Jenkins has been a stud at guard for the Packers and he has shown his positional versatility, playing at left tackle while Bakhtiari is out with an ACL injury. He still has another year left on his rookie deal (after this season) and is just 26 years old.
Za’Darius Smith is a stud EDGE rusher, but like with Bakhtiari, it’s a position where the Lions have two solid starters in Trey Flowers and Romeo Okwara. Is he enough of an upgrade?
Jaire Alexander is only 24 years old and is headed towards lockdown corner status. The Packers picked up his fifth-year option for 2022, but like Adams, he’d need an extension.
Adrian Amos and Darnell Savage are both impressive safeties and both are still young — Savage is just 24 years old and Amos is 28. Like Alexander, they are also both in the final year of their contract.
My choice: Davante Adams
Plain and simple, he’s a stud and would fill a massive hole on the Lions roster. It doesn't bother me that he will be 30 years old next year nor that he is in the final year of his contract. He’s the type of player where you get a deal done, no matter what, and he still has plenty left in the tank.
Your turn, which Packer would you steal away?
