Last week, our Detroit Lions vs. San Francisco 49ers Madden simulation played out in a way that vaguely resembled reality. The Detroit Lions actually jumped out to a 14-0 lead, thanks to a pretty balanced offensive attack and an opportunistic defense.
But much like reality, things quickly spiraled at the end of the first half. Still holding that 14-0 lead with under two minutes to go, the 49ers kicked a field goal, then immediately got a turnover and turned it into seven points to make it a 14-10 Lions lead at the half.
The second half was all 49ers, and unlikely reality, there was no furious comeback for the Lions. San Francisco walked away with a comfortable 33-14 win in the opening Madden simulation of the year.
Now we turn our attention to Week 2 of the NFL, where the Lions have an opportunity to make a statement. Just about everyone has counted out the Lions for the NFC North race, even though every team in the division is 0-1 after Week 1. If they can pull off an improbable Monday night win in Lambeau against the Green Bay Packers, all of a sudden there would be some serious, “Why not us?” conversations to be had.
But let’s not get ahead of ourselves here. It is not yet Monday night, it’s Sunday morning. Which, this week, means it’s time to battle things out on the virtual gridiron. So join us at 10:30 a.m. ET on our Twitch channel to watch as I commentate the computer-controlled Packers take on the computer-controlled Lions in Madden 22. I’ll also answer any Lions questions you may have.
