POLL: Do you feel better or worse after the Detroit Lions’ loss to the Packers?

Promised by the first half, or frustrated by another meltdown?

The Detroit Lions looked like they had the Green Bay Packers where they wanted them... until they didn’t. Detroit blew a 17-14 second-half lead, then for the second straight week they got routed in the second half. This time, there was no last-minute comeback, leaving Detroit in the dust after 20 unanswered points from the Packers.

There were some thing that looked improved in this game. Jared Goff, for once, had a fantastic first half and didn’t seem to have much of a trouble pushing the ball down the field, even with a ragtag group of receivers. The offensive line continues to dominate, and the defensive line even made a few plays on Sunday.

But, obviously, there are glaring issues all over this team, too. The receiving corps isn’t getting the separation they need. The linebacking corps just can’t seem to get off blocks or make tackles. And now with yet another injury, the Lions cornerback group is bad, battered and way too young to expect solid play from.

So after two weeks, how are you feeling about this team?

My answer: I feel the exact same.

This game felt like an exact carbon copy from Week 1, with better play from Jared Goff earlier in the game, but much worse play late in the game.

The Lions know who they are, and I give a lot of credit to the coaching staff for that. Offensively, they have some weapons that can help move the ball, and they’ve done a nice job of that through two games. Given that good offensive front—and lack of receivers—they know the best way to move the ball is through the run game, and they’ve done that.

And that’s also the best way to accommodate this defense that just isn’t anywhere close to where it needs to be. So the game plan on that side of the ball is to take away big plays and hope the offense eventually makes a mistake. Last week, they recovered two fumbles. This week, they didn’t get anything.

So it is what it is. The Lions offense has a very good chance to keep Detroit in games late, but if they make a mistake—or two—it can get ugly pretty quick. Hopefully, we see some improvement from the defensive side of the ball to give the offense some margin for error, but at this point, I feel like I already know who this team is.

Your turn.
