Friday open thread: Which player on the Ravens would you want on the Lions roster?

Each week, as part of game preview articles, I’ll be using the Question of the Day post to examine the roster of the Detroit Lions' upcoming opponent. I’ll sort through their top players, narrowing the list based on a few key aspects (like being currently active), then present the following question to the fans base:

Which player on the Ravens would you want on the Lions roster?

The Ravens have a lot of talent, but several key contributors are already on injured reserve—boy, that sounds familiar. So, right off the bat, RB J.K. Dobbins, WR Miles Boykin, WR Rashad Bateman, LB L.J. Fort, and CB Marcus Peters are not options because they’re on IR.

Next, I’ll eliminate players that despite being near the top of their position group, may not offer a significant upgrade from what the Lions currently have. For example, LT Ronnie Stanley is terrific, but is he a significant upgrade over Penei Sewell and Taylor Decker? Is TE Mark Andrews an upgrade over T.J. Hockenson?

This process of elimination still leaves me with a few other quality options.

First, QB Lamar Jackson. The 2019 NFL MVP is the most dynamic quarterback to play in the league since Michael Vick. The Ravens completely overhauled their offense to suit Jackson and he has thrived in the friendly scheme. Still just 24 years old, Jackson gets a nice bump in pay in 2022 due to his fifth-year option, then the purse strings will have to be opened up to keep him around.

Next, DL Calais Campbell. The 2019 Walter Payton Man of the Year, Campbell is a balanced defender who excels at stopping the run and can bring the heat when pass rushing. He’s not the tackler he once was, and he’s now 35 years old, which will ding him in this exercise.

Last, CB Marlon Humphrey. The 2019 first-team All-Pro is just 25 years old and is in the second year of his seven-year, $97.5 million contract extension. Humphrey is a cornerstone player for the Ravens defense and is an every-week performer. He can play outside, inside, against the run, and in shadow coverage. He is one of the most complete corners in the game.

My choice: Lamar Jackson

Baltimore has plenty of talented players, but this was an easy choice. There’s a ton to love about Jackson’s game but Lions coach Dan Campbell summed up why this was a no brainer decision for me:

“He’s (Jackson) a dynamic player who has rare ability, rare talent, and he touches the ball 67 times a game, 70 times a game.”

As an offense, you want to get the ball in your playmaker's hands as often as possible and the Ravens get to do it on every offensive play. What a luxury.
