To say the Detroit Lions are off to a slow start this season would be quite an understatement. In both losses we are starting to see some not-so promising trends. There is plenty of blame to hand out on all three phases of the game (offense, defense and special teams) but the defense in Week 2 was eerily similar to Week 1, which was painfully similar to 2020.
Many (including myself) assumed simply shifting from a Matt Patricia defense to ANYONE would do the trick, but here we are. So far it’s been a nightmare on defense (or a dream for opposing offenses). The question is why? In my latest video, we try to break down why the defense looks about same as previous years and what, possibly, can be done to remedy it this season and beyond.
