The Detroit Lions have a knack for surprising people in Week 3. Back in 2018, the Lions started a disappointing 0-2, and with the New England Patriots coming to town, no one gave them much of a shot at a win. Instead, the Lions took it to the Patriots on Sunday Night Football and walked away with a comfortable 26-10 win.
The next year, the Lions were 1-0-1 entering Week 3. A road trip to Philly is never easy, and the Eagles were favored by a modest 4 points. It was a struggle, but the Lions held on and walked away with yet another Week 3 victory.
One of the Lions’ few wins last year also came in Week 3. After another 0-2 start, the Lions went on the road against the 2-0 Cardinals as 4.5-point underdogs. A three interception day from the defense led them to a narrow 26-23 victory.
This year, the Lions face another daunting Week 3 task. The Baltimore Ravens may only be 1-1, but they just took down the behemoth that is the Kansas City Chiefs. Meanwhile, the Lions are down and down bad. They’ve been down by three scores in both of their two losses, and their defense is both injured and banished.
That being said, injuries and COVID have hit the Ravens this week, opening an opportunity for an upset. Plus, fans get what they’ve been waiting for since the beginning of the regular season: a significant amount of playing time for rookie linebacker Derrick Barnes.
Each week thus far, we’ve had only one staffer pick the Lions. This week is no different. Our Week 3 sucker believer is Chris Perfett. Check out all of our picks below:
