Notes: Friendly competition between Kalif Raymond, Amon-Ra St. Brown helping both grow

Raymond credits his fellow receiver with developing some of his own work ethic.

Nothing like a little friendly competition to boost motivation.

Detroit Lions receiver Kalif Raymond is no stranger to grinding, but credits fellow receiver Amon-Ra St. Brown and his work ethic with taking it to the next level.

“To be completely honest, the work ethic, as far as how many jugs I catch, actually came from Amon-Ra,” he said Wednesday. “He told me that he caught 200 balls a day, which is a lot.”

So Raymond challenged the rookie to a friendly competition to increase those after-practice reps.

“He caught 202 so I was like ‘Alright, I’m going to catch 215.’ Like everyday I was catching jugs, in the back of my head thinking he was going to catch jugs,” Ramond said. “After practice everyday, he catches 202. So it’s almost like a challenge. ‘How many did you do today? 202 — alright I did 203.’”

Raymond called St. Brown a competitor with “incredible” work ethic.

“I was probably around like the 75 to 100 mark and he said ‘I’m catching 200.’ I was like ‘You know what, I appreciate that because I was selling myself short.’ Because he has such good habits and work ethic like that and dedication, he ended up helping me,” Raymond said.

Teammates encouraging each other to push the limit? Sounds like a team heading in a good direction to me.
