We are now just one week removed from the start of the regular season and the Detroit Lions’ front office has been extremely busy trying to shape up this 53-man roster. They’ve shown that one of their main priorities is to get younger and faster. That’s a great move for the future, but for the 2021 season will it equate to wins?
They’ve made some surprising moves cutting guys like Mike Ford and not many would have expected someone like Breshad Perriman or Quinton Dunbar to be gone if you’d ask them back during the free agency period. So how are we feeling now?
Today’s Question of the Day is...
Have your expectations changed for the 2021 Lions?
My answer: Slightly.
I was maybe a little bit overly optimistic about this team several months back. I really love the Brad Holmes hire and the coaching staff that Dan Campbell has brought in still has me buzzing. None of that has changed, but looking at this roster, I might have to pump the brakes a bit and be patient first and foremost. Whereas I might have expected seven or eight wins back then, realistically, I think we’re closer to hitting 5 or so wins and hoping for a top-10 pick.
This offense is probably going to have a lot of growing pains, and the defense—especially the D-line—could end up being the strength of the team, but it’s extremely inexperienced and young, so tempering expectations would be wise.
Your turn.
