Thursday open thread: Which player on the 49ers would you want on the Lions roster?

San Francisco has a lot of options to choose from.

The San Francisco 49ers are a well-balanced team, who despite dealing with a multitude of injuries, still managed to be a competitive team in 2020. They have talent all over the field and feature four players who are among the most talented in the NFL at their respective positions: Trent Williams (LT), George Kittle (TE), Nick Bosa (EDGE), and Fred Warner (LB).

So today’s Question of the Day is:

Which player on the 49ers would you want on the Detroit Lions roster?

My answer: Fred Warner

Honestly, you could make an argument for all four of the players listed above, but for me, Warner would offer the biggest immediate roster upgrade, while also featuring an elite skill set.

Warner, an All-Pro and No. 21 on the NFL’s Top-100 list in 2020, recently signed a five-year, $95 million extension ($40.5M guaranteed), making him, at the time, the highest-paid off-the-ball linebacker in the NFL—he has since been passed by the Colts’ Darius Leonard.

He is also young, (just 24 years old), durable (started 48 straight games over three seasons), productive (367 tackles over three seasons), is stout against the run, can rush the passer, has sideline-to-sideline range, and best of all, he can cover (91.1 PFF grade on 510 coverage snaps in 2020).

Warner’s instincts and competitive nature make him a perfect fit for what the Lions are looking for in a MIKE linebacker and could very well be the blueprint for what the Lions hope Derrick Barnes can develop into.

Your turn, which 49er would you steal away?
