NFL Draft Lion- Ode to a Lions' Fan: 'Twas the night before the draft, when all through the house
not a creature was stirring, no more clicks of the mouse.
The Sim's jersey was hung by the chimney with care,
in hopes that Watkins soon would be there.
The children and wifey were nestled all snug in their beds,
while visions of touchdowns danced in my head.
And Mama in her 'Sanders, and I in my Suh,
had just settled our brains but I wondered what will Mayhew do?
When out on the Pride of Detroit there arose such a clatter,
I sprang from my bed to see what was the matter.
Away to the computer screen I flew like a flash,
flipped open the laptop, but it fell with a crash
Was there a trade, how will I know?
gave up some picks from above or below?
when, what to my wondering eyes should appear,
a vision of post draft day came perfectly clear
Martin at the podium, so lively and quick,
I'd know in a moment each guy that they picked
Martin spoke rapid and players they came,
and he whistled and shouted and introduced each draft pick by name:
"Now Watkins! Now Shazier!
Now, Ward and Marcus Martin!
On, Moncrief On, Gaines!
On, Webster and Dri Archer!
To the top of the North!
To the top with the view
Martin pounded his fist
We extended Ndamukong Suh
No back up QB ? but got Thad late last year in camp
so after the cuts there's still a good chance
TE can wait, since Lions re-resigned Pettigrew
now the offense has toys, and coach Lombardi knows what to do.
Martin spoke not a word, but went straight to his work,
and signed all the contracts, then turned with a jerk.
And laying his finger aside of his nose,
and giving a nod, out Allen Park he goes
He sprang to his Bentley, to his team gave a wave
knowing with Caldwell they better behave
But I heard him exclaim, 'ere he drove out of sight,
"Thankful for Xanders and to all a good night"
