Lions Week 12 injury report: Jonah Jackson still missing practice

Checking in on the Detroit Lions' Week 12 injury report, as they prepare to take on the Green Bay Packers on Thanksgiving Day.

The Detroit Lions (8-2) host the Green Bay Packers (4-6) on Thursday in their annual Thanksgiving game, and because of the short week, the Lions are only holding walkthrough practices in the lead-up to the contest. For the most part, the Lions remain very healthy and only one starter is dealing with an injury that could force him to miss this week’s game.

NOTE: Tuesday’s report is an estimate from the team and any changes from yesterday’s injury report will be bolded.

Injured Reserve update

There has been a lot of recent hype surrounding C.J. Gardner-Johnson—who is on injured reserve with a pectoral injury but is eligible to return at any time—and his possible return from injury. He has been posting workout videos on social media, talking trash during live streams, and even suggesting a possible return to play this season.

But on Monday, coach Dan Campbell threw some cold water on that hype, suggesting a return in the next few weeks was not anticipated.

“I don’t foresee that, but yet I’m not gonna—never say never,” Campbell said. “I’m not going to do that. He may have mutant genes like Wolverine, but, believe me, that would be unbelievable. I just think it’ll be hard, but you never know.”

Estimated no practice on Tuesday

  • OL Jonah Jackson (wrist)

With another estimated missed practice, things aren’t looking very optimistic for Jackson’s chances to play on Thanksgiving. If he can’t go, look for the Lions to turn back to rookie Colby Sorsdal to get his second consecutive start at left guard.

Limited practice

  • None

Full practice

  • C Frank Ragnow (toe)
  • DT Isaiah Buggs (illness)
  • S Ifeatu Melifonwu (hand)

Ragnow has been on a rest and rehabilitation plan all season as he works to manage his toe injury. He is expected to be good to go for the Packers game.

Buggs illness doesn’t appear to be too much of a concern moving forward as he get an estimated second full practice.

Melifonwu was able to play with a club/cast on his hand last week, and another full practice indicates he’ll likely be able to do the same this Thursday.
