Survey Results: Lions fans predicting a close win over Saints in Week 13

The results from the latest SB Nation Reacts survey are in and Detroit Lions fans have spoken.

On Wednesday, we polled Detroit Lions fans, asking them two questions for our latest SB Nation Reacts survey:

  1. Are you confident the Lions are headed in the right direction? (weekly poll)
  2. What is the most likely outcome for the Lions at Saints in Week 13?

With regards to the first survey question, here are the results we have seen over the first eight weeks of the season, including this week:

It appears a section of Lions fans may have gotten a taste of the good life and aren’t happy with the adversity the team is going through right now. After just their third loss in 11 weeks, Lions fans' confidence in the direction of the franchise hits a season-low of 80%.

Justified or an overreaction? We’ll likely find out over the next month and a half.

With regard to the second question, you can see the dip in confidence carry over to this week’s game, as just 78% of fans believe the Lions (8-3) will beat the Saints (5-6), with 55% of the fans believing it will be a close score. If you look at the betting line set by the folks over at DraftKings Sportsbook, Vegas tends to agree, as they’re favoring the Lions by just over a field goal—though that number has been increasing through the week.

Here are a few of the explanations from voters (lightly edited for clarity and ease of reading) in the comment section of the original article:

  • 1951Lion: “We jump out to an early lead and keep going. It’s time to start putting an offense together that is unbeatable. The defense will be what they are, but the offense should be able to operate under any conditions. Score more. We have the skilled players. Make it happen.”
  • Long Time Lions Fan: “If the Lions clean up their game and don’t beat themselves with turnovers, poor play calling, dropped passes, and head scratching coaches decisions, they should easily handle the Saints. The aforementioned items are what may prevent a Honolulu Blue victory. I am ready for another win streak to start on Sunday.”
  • ToledoMax: “Monty goes off from the git. Goff gets the play action rolling. D wakes up. We win. Simple.”
