It’s not a Detroit Lions win until we officially hear from play-by-play announcer Dan Miller. The iconic Voice of the Detroit Lions has been through the thick and thin with us fans, and he’s often delivered some iconic lines to narrate the best and worst moments of this franchise.
So, naturally, we turn to Miller again in this historic moment in the Lions franchise. The Lions are NFC North champions for the first time in franchise history after beating the Minnesota Vikings 30-24. In less than a month, they’ll host their first playoff game in 30 years.
The game-clinching play was a phenomenal interception from Lions safety Ifeatu Melifonwu, who stepped in front of a Nick Mullens pass for the defense’s fourth interception of the day. The play stopped a Vikings drive that had already gained 58 yards and was a mere 30 yards short of potentially winning the game.
But Melifonwu’s interception gave the ball back to Detroit, where Jared Goff would kneel twice in victory formation for the win to move to 11-4 and clinch the division.
Here’s MIller’s call of that pivotal play:
“It is... picked off by the Lions!” Miller screams. “Intercepted! Coming back the other way! Ifeatu Melifonwu! This is going to be over! Lions are going to win it! Lions are bringing the NFC North title back to Detroit! The fourth interception of the day delivers for the Detroit Lions!”
A fantastic call for the team’s first truly iconic moment in several decades. Enjoy it, folks.
