Survey Results: Lions fans predicting a close win over Bears in Week 14

The results from the latest SB Nation Reacts survey are in and Detroit Lions fans have spoken.

NFL: Detroit Lions at Chicago Bears Daniel Bartel-USA TODAY Sports

On Wednesday, we polled Detroit Lions fans, asking them two questions for our latest SB Nation Reacts survey:

  1. Are you confident the Lions are headed in the right direction? (weekly poll)
  2. What is the most likely outcome for the Lions at Bears in Week 14?

With regards to the first survey question, here are the results we have seen over the first twelve weeks of the season, including this week:

The fans' level of confidence that the Lions are headed in the right direction got a boost after beating the Saints in New Orleans, but it’s still the second-lowest mark we have seen this season. The Lions are working through a rough patch, and that is likely why we have seen this confidence poll take a dip. That being said, they continue to find ways to win, despite their struggles, which is why the majority of fans are still on board.

As far as this week’s game, 74% of fans believe the Lions (9-3) will beat the Bears (4-8), with 59% of the fans believing it will be a close score. If you look at the betting line set by the folks over at DraftKings Sportsbook, Vegas tends to agree, as they’re favoring the Lions by slightly over a field goal.

Here are a few of the explanations from voters (lightly edited for clarity and ease of reading) in the comment section of the original article:

  • Quinny the pooh: “I would say the Lions fanbase has lost their swagger and confidence in the team, mainly due to the lack of confidence in the defense to play a 60-minute game to stop the opposition. [...] Give me 3 more nail-biters, pull off a 1-score, last-minute victory, and I’m satisfied.”
  • Steve52: “The first game was close only because the Lions turned the ball over four times. As a result, the Bears had the ball for 40 minutes. If the Bears weren’t a bad team they’d have won due to that advantage alone. But they didn’t.”
  • positivebob: “Stop with the contain Fields paranoia. He’s run for over 100 yards the last 3 times and lost all 3 times. He ran for 1000 yards last year and they won 3 games. (DJ) Moore, sure, he’s dangerous, as are (Cole) Kmet and (Darnell) Mooney. (Khalil) Herbert’s a good RB. But the Bears are a bad team. They’ve won 4 games. They looked bad in their win against the Minnies (Vikings). They’re badly coached. No guarantees, but the Lions should win this game.”
