Before all of the football purists start yelling at me about how the game is meant to be played in the elements, hear me out.
I am not calling for ALL football to be played indoors, or under the cover of a retractable roof. Just NFL football.
Pop Warner, high school, college—go crazy with your inclement weather! But when it comes to the professionals, I need my football to be played on an optimal surface.
Today’s Question of the Day is:
Do you think that all NFL games should have the option of being played indoors?
My Answer: Yes, and let me tell you why.
When I watch the NFL, I want to watch the best of the best competing at their craft. Simply put, a game played in the snow, rain, or mud takes away from the overall quality of the product.
Seeing a random Thursday night game being played in the snow between Eastern Michigan University and the University of Toledo? Fun! Why not?
Seeing the greatest athletes the game has to offer slip and slide around a crappy natural-grass field that has been rained on for the past six hours? Not as fun!
I am not calling for every game to be played in a dome, but in the future, I do think new stadiums should be built with a retractable roof, at the very least.
