Lions: Last Year vs This Year

How are we doing as compared to last year:

  • QB? Backup QB is loads better. Goff is still Goff but he has more confidence and he knows the system better. So I would say slight improvement
  • RB? Seems like Gibbs is better than Swift. Is he a lot better? No sure. Monty is a touch better tan JW. So I would say moderate improvement, knowing some would say vastly better but I am trying to be conservative
  • WR? We are missing Jamo for 6 games but we missed him for a lot more than that last year. Chark is gone but he was hurt more often than not last year. St Brown is still improving. Green and Jones might help a bit. A lot depends on Jamo. Until he gets going we are a little weak on the outside. So call it a slight improvement, although the balance of risk is that we get more than that
  • OL? This seems like a clear improvement. We had so many injury issues at IOL last year. We not have legit starters with the best backup OG/OC we have had in decades.
  • DL? Another clear improvement. We had 3 rookie edges last year. Sure two of them did well but rookies get better. We can expect Romeo and Harris to be better than last year. On the inside we saw Buggs get better as the year went on. If he can build on that and work in Martin then that is a win. I would say moderate improvement.
  • LB? We lost Board, who I liked but we gained Campbell and JRM. Rodrigo was a rookie so he figures to get better. Hard to say but I see a moderate improvement here, perhaps more.
  • Safeties? Hugely better. I am not a big Walker fan but losing him and having to throw in a rookie did hurt. We lost Elliot but we gained Branch and Gardner-Johnson. I liked Elliot but that has to be a win.
  • CB? This seems like a night and day improvement to me. We gain Moseley and Sutton. Those are 2 legit starters. We had zero legit starters last year.
I look at this and see a 9 win team that has gotten better literally everywhere. That kind of across the board improvement tends to multiple as one improved position group makes other better. I have trouble seeing why we are not 3 games better than last year. That might sound excessive but it seems like what we should expect give the changes that have been made.

So look for 12-5 and a playoff win. Maybe even more. Dare we dream
