The Detroit Lions are taking on the Minnesota Vikings in Week 18, closing out the 2023-24 regular season at home in Ford Field. The folks over at DraftKings have set the opening betting line at Lions -4, with the moneyline settled at Lions +160 and Vikings -192, with the over/under line set at 44 points.
Barring losses from the Cowboys and Eagles, the Lions are likely locked into the No. 3 seed in the NFC playoffs. But with the Lions playing at 1 p.m. ET and the NFC East teams all playing in the 4:25 p.m. ET timeslot, Detroit should come into this game with the mindset that the No. 2 seed is still on the table.
Meanwhile, the Vikings are coming off a loss to the Packers 33-10—their fifth loss in the last six games, including losing 30-24 to the Lions the week prior—and simply have no answers at the quarterback position. After rookie Jaren Hall led Minnesota to just three first-half points against Green Bay, the Vikings switched things up and brought back previously benched Nick Mullens. Mullens was able to move the Vikings offense better in the second half, but he also only led his team to one score, though it was a fourth-quarter touchdown.
Technically—despite holding a 7-9 record—the Vikings are not eliminated from the playoffs just yet. For them to get into the playoffs, they would not only need to beat the Lions, but they would also need losses from the Packers (who play the Bears at 4:25 p.m. ET), Seahawks (vs. Cardinals at 4:25 p.m. ET), and either the Saints (vs. Falcons at 1 p.m. ET) or Buccaneers (at Panthers at 1 p.m. ET).
So while there’s not a ton on the line for either team in this game, there are still some potential outcomes in the Sunday late-afternoon games that each team has a chance to improve their status in the postseason.
