For this week, Jared Goff is the king of Detroit

A whole stadium was chanting his name. He rose to the occasion. Take a bow, Jared Goff. You’ve earned it.

Any quarterback for the Detroit Lions comes with constant questions, expectations, and worries. But in one night, Jared Goff claimed a victory that will echo for Lions fans and cemented his legacy in Detroit. Once cast off from the Los Angeles Rams and dismissed as broken, Goff accomplished what no Lions quarterback since Erik Kramer had done: playoff victory.

His role with the Lions team is all but unquestionable after defeating his old team. But that’s just the start of the story and how the Lions accomplished their big night. We dissect it all on the latest episode of the Pride of Detroit PODcast, plus we take a look at what’s to come with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

“There’s more and more videos coming out every day like Chris said, people crying at home, people crying in the stands; I saw a video today of people just absolutely bombarding Jared Goff’s car, going ‘you’re our QB, you’re our QB, you’re our QB!’ And that to me was one of the most stunning parts of Sunday: just the Lions fandom throwing complete support behind Jared Goff, in a way I’ve never seen with any quarterback, even Matthew Stafford. Did Stafford ever get chanted, “Ma-tthew Ma-tthew?” I don’t know if he ever did.

There’s definitely part of it is, we’re cheering Jared Goff because we’re not cheering Matthew Stafford, but at the same time, that was Jared Goff’s night. He captured the moment, he created a memory he’s never going to forget and he made a very big statement about his future with the team, his future in the NFL, his standing amongst NFL quarterbacks... look across the league right now, how many fell on their face in the playoffs? Dak did again!”
